Hi Cazza

I'm another one who is unable to help you. I am so sorry you are having to go through this.

On a positive note, my Dad had a catheter fitted which he had in place for about 6 months. It was removed and he was fine afterwards.

Take care

Love Jeanxx

What a time you have been having! I had to have a catherter for eight days after a serious Back operation, about 10 years ago, so my experience is well out of date. I too had been all but paralysed from the waist down. After removal, I was wearing incontinence pants for another couple of day, and as I wasn't doing much, i spent the days doing 'pull up' excercises, to remind the muscles what to do. Pretty much a full recovery (from that part of it) after a week without.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery, and hope the RA drugs are kicking in again.

Hi I had a catheter fitted after a c section and also after hysterectomy. On each occasion it was taken out within 36 hours.

Not sure if that is of any help .....

Hi Cazza, Sorry no experience of catheters but sorry that you are still having a dreadful time. Have you any idea what the longer term treatment is for your back?

Hi Cazza,

Wish I could help with your question, but the only time I`ve had one was after hysterectomy, so not in very long. You are having a really tough time and I wish things were better for you.

Take care,

Kathleen x

Hi Cazza,
I've had catheters a few times after ops but only for a few days.
Sorry you're having such a dreadful time, I hope you see some improvement soon.

Hi Cazz,

My daughter had both a catheter and a colostomy fitted after the birth of her first baby 10 years ago. The catheter was eventually removed after about 9 months, just about the time she thought that she was to be left with them both for ever. The colostomy was there for another 2 years or so after a few failed attempts to remove it. They will not want to leave it there for any longer than they need to as, from what I remember from my daughter, there is too much chance of infection.

Hope that you are starting to feel one heck of a lot better and that child and other support is now in place. This will pass but how awful that you have had to endure it in the first place.

Thinking of you,

Eleanor x

I also had a catheter after a c section, but I'm sure they will remove it as soon as they can.

Long term catheters are NOT a problem. The infection risk is MINIMAL as long as it is properly managed and looked after. You will be informed of the hows and when and whats if it has to stay longterm. Life goes on with one just as it always does, there's no need to panic. Have sent you a PM so get in touch!!
Always be aware that what you do might hurt others........and if it could, do nothing without careful consideration of the consequences
